Kaye Battey (née Bedingham) (Alumna 1960)

"In 1960 I spent a wonderful 6 weeks at the Strobl campus sharing a large room in Berghaus with an American girl and a Swedish girl (Dorothy Steck and Ingela Petzen) and getting to know some great fellow students, mostly American and Austrian. There were fewer nationalities represented in those days.

As a British undergraduate the courses could not contribute towards my ultimate degree ( we did not have a credits system ) but the whole experience, the courses themselves – Austrian Geography with Professor Scheidl (including visits to places like Hallstadt, the salt mines and a weekend in Vienna) and Austrian Culture and History with professor Fellner – plus the opportunity to attend the Salzburg Festival all in an international family atmosphere are memories I treasure 56 years on. In fact I took my husband on a ‘pilgrimage’ to see this wonderful place only 4 years ago. Some things had inevitably changed but much was recognizable."
